Derric Haynie

Derric has been a professional poker player for over 5 years.  He mainly moved up the ranks through mass tabling the mid-stakes fullring games before switching over to 6max at the 5/10 and 10/20 level.  His many accomplishments include final tabling 2 WSOP events, one in the $1500 shootout, and the other in a $1500 2-7 NL.  He has won the Sunday Brawl, won the AP 200k GTD, final tabled the WCOOP main event, twice final tabled the sunday second chance, and won a handful of large buy-in rebuy tournaments through Stars, Full Tilt, and Absolute.  You can now find him playing the 8 and 10 game mix on PokerStars and Full Tilt, or sitting at a 2-7 NL Single Draw table waiting for heads up action.

"People that tell you there isn't math in poker are just plain wrong.  They might say they aren't "math" players but are "feel" players.  All that means is they are using their intuition to hopefully align with making a mathematically correct decision.  People play poker without even realizing every poker decision is part of a complex multi-variable equation, and that's what makes the game so profitable.  I always got great grades in math throughout high school and college.  When I moved out for college, I found people playing $5 buy in poker in the dorms and was instantly intrigued.  I was a huge fish in those home games my freshman year, but bought and read a few books over that summer (which nowadays are better off in a trash can than reading for advice) and deposited around $200 on Party Poker.  I played very tight and everyone was horrible and after many ups and downs and tons of hard work I was making enough money to pay my bills and college tuition.   Even then I didn't understand a lot about the math of poker, I probably would have proclaimed myself that I was a "feel" player.  But over time and with the help of instructional videos and my poker friends, I learned the true fundamentals and became ready to teach them to others.  I have coached a few dozen players through the mid stakes and have made about 40 instructional videos. I hope use my experience in both business and poker to help grow PokerZion into one of the best poker training sites on the web."
